Tried my hand at an out of focus shot....way harder than it looks. I just felt like they didn't make sense, however I did want to share and get some feedback...

I wasn't entirely impressed with my shot for the day, so I spent the afternoon driving around looking for sap buckets, and I finally found them, I was so happy! So many people stared at me as I climbed gigantic snow banks to get to these trees....I'm so happy I finally photographed them, I've been meaning to for years!

  1. I really like the artistic look of oof shots, but I haven't attempted any yet. Still working on getting things really in focus...ha! I do know people say oof is much harder than it seems it would be. I like where you were going with the first photo. I think, perhaps, I would have actually prefered it a little more in focus than it is (while still oof). it's a little hard to tell what it is. For sure, there's a fine line between making sure you can tell the details/subject of the photo while making sure it doesn't look like it was oof by mistake.

I really like the second photo a lot. I like the dof and the composition with the diagonal line created by the trees, with the sap buckets on each...great story telling capture.

    1. Ok, so I came back to look at your oof and I think I was off my rocker...I'm gonna blame it on my son taking over the couch for a fort and me having to sit in the chair directly across from our patio doors...and viewing these on my completely backlit laptop. There are nice, contrasting colors and I CAN totally tell this is your little boy climbing a tree. I think it's a very cool photo with a nostalgic feel. Can I take it back?

  2. Words can not express how much I LOVE the oof image!!!! It is seriously 1 of your best ever!! Its like a painting.. truly lovely capture.. I think that the image has the perfect balance of oof and in focus.. I could see right away that it was Cyrus climbing a tree but at the same time it could be any child which I think makes an image like this so great!! You should be very very proud of this!

  6. I love both of these shots! I don't even know how to start with oof shots...yours is great! Tells a nice story. I love the second photo. I've never seen how maple syrup is made or where it really comes from, so this is really cool.
